Project

Many people want to enjoy better learning environments, yet when asked what that means and how to create it, very few people know how to answer that question. “Tianmei’s World” Academy has moved things further and not only did we define the actual elements that compose a learning environment, but we also use those elements as a framework to redesign how and where learning happens. As such, we are able to bring higher quality educational opportunities across geographical and language barriers in a diverse and inclusive way while being able to accommodate different learning styles.

Through this project, we aim to bring out new possibilities in education by showing how these environmental elements come together to create a whole, and how they influence individual and group learning outcome.

We also aim to bring together professionals involved in the design of different elements of the learning environment to close the loop and thus create a platform that will enable us to raise the standard to quality education, as well as enable more in depth dialog.

Problems "Tianmei's World" Academy has identified:

  • Disconnect between all the stakeholders who are responsible to create a learning environment, mainly researchers, designers, educational professionals, thus creating faulty learning environments.

  • Very few users understand what are the components of a proper learning environment and how to create one for themselves, even though everyone desires such an environment. Often, because of improper learning environment design, many learners end up believing they don't have the talent/ability to learn.

  • In the light of climate change, the skill missing overall was found to be systems thinking, understand how different pieces connect to each other; current unidirectional approach used in many industries is not functional anymore and distracts attention from the whole.

  • Current educational system employs a one-size-fits-all learning strategy, leaving behind all those who have a different learning style.

  • The common sense belief is that miscommunication in general is due to different cultures and languages. However, speaking the same language leads to more potential miscommunication as people will ignore how individual backgrounds affect perceptions and understanding of similar concepts. There is little awareness regarding the role that language plays in general

IMG_0265.JPG

By organising the Project we aim to:

  • Create more awareness about influencing environmental elements and disrupt/redefine current educational models

  • Explore the viability to expand the “network of classrooms” beyond Chinese borders

  • Create a platform with resources/partnerships and identify best case scenario for expansion across Europe and Asia

  • Close the gap within the learning environment design process in order to provide better learning environments that can accommodate individual learning needs

  • Create opportunities for dialog between designers, educational professionals and end users (a design thinking approach to problem solving)

  • Raise awareness about the need for diversity and inclusion in the way educational material is delivered

  • Create first “NGO to social entrepreneurship” Pivoting Program to further promote sustainable development (fundraising through tickets)

  • Help more people change focus from language at word face value to the meaning behind the words

This project is for you if:

  • You are someone who wants to better understand what are the exact elements that compose a learning environment and how to use them to create better learning environments for yourself and others around you.

  • You are an educational professional who wants to take their pedagogic skills to a higher level or are doing research in the field and want to be connected with like-minded individuals.

  • You are a designer involved in educational facilities design and want to understand better how your designs impact the learning outcome of the users.

About the Academy

Psychology applied to environmental design
Network of Classrooms
Environment = Space (Physical) + People (Social)

Environmental Psychology is the discipline that studies the influence that different environments (both physical and social) have on human behaviour and mindset formation.

At "Tianmei's World" Academy, we use environmental psychology to create better learning, working and living environments. We allow each person to experience how different environments influence them and allow people to learn how to create the most suitable environments for themselves.

Find out what Tianmei's World Academy is all about

IMG_0339.JPG

"Tianmei's World" Academy represents:

The first “network of classrooms” concept in the world. It combines online and offline learning while building local communities. Its aim is to bring high quality education opportunities closer to each person across geographical barriers by turning any available space into an alternative learning environment, while maintaining the highest standard for education.

It's an organization that studies the influence of different environments on human behavior with the aim to help each individual to create better living, learning and working environments for themselves.

A platform that aims to innovate the education sector, looking to provide equal access to education to everyone across cultural, language, economical and geographical barriers, focusing on individual needs rather than one-size-fits-all approach currently existing in traditional education systems.

A holistic approach to problem-solving: helps individuals explore for themselves what kind of learning environments and methods are more suitable for themselves; creates a more diverse and inclusive learning environment; helps venues enhance user experience; leads to behavioral change through education and direct action; influences other systems through direct implementation.

Theme 1

The social environment and its components: the invisible strings determining mindset formation and behaviour

The sessions in the first theme will focus on how different social environment elements - language, people relationships, media influence (including AI use) - influence human behaviour and mindset formation, with a focus on positive behavioral changes and learning outcome enhancement.

Theme 2

The physical environment and its components: uncovering individual talent through architectural design

The sessions in the second theme shall focus on how different physical environmental elements - light, sound, layout, food, furniture, coloring - influence human behavior and mindset formation.

Theme 3

The need for a holistic approach: moving forward

The sessions during the third theme shall focus on dialog about cross-disciplinary collaborations (systemic thinking).

For me education is a process of exchange between the mentor and her/his pupils, in which the former participates in creating an environment that instills and encourages the desire of knowledge, nourishes curiosity and teaches multiple methods of research, while guiding the students on their own path of learning.

Optimal education would create enough space for the students to play and find their own sense of agency and fully engages internal motivation, while at the same time it uses a framework that directs them into developing skills and knowledge that are relevant to their context and society.
